My list of under-rated movies:
It's actually a very funny movie! Cruise is hilarious as this seemingly oblivious super spy who has a tendency to talk to himself. I love that his character isn't arrogant and looks to take care of others before himself (which is the exact opposite of many of Cruise's previous characters). Diaz plays kind of the same role as she always does, the sweet, somewhat hapless girl that needs rescuing. I don't normally like her, but she was perfect for this role.
One of my all time favorite movies EVER!! Brilliant performances all around. All-star cast. Action. Drama. Even a little bit of humor and romance. I really can't stress enough how amazing the performances are from each actor. Ben Kingsley is masterful. But, the absolute best performance, by far, in the whole movie, is by Josh Hartnett. Not only is his line delivery excellent, but he goes even further into his character with mannerisms, posture, speech patterns. And here's the kicker: at the end of the movie, he shows us a completely different character (complete with a different hairstyle). This movie is NOT to be missed.
I do not get why I'm the only one in love with this movie. It's beautifully filmed, epic in scale at times (there are quite a few helicopter shots showing spectacular scenery). This movie is, to me, the "Princess Bride" of my generation. It's very similar to it. Romance, sword fights, kings, princesses, witches, magic, action, and lots of humor. Robert de Niro has a show stealing scene, but I can't give it away here. It's priceless. This is another one NOT to be missed.
Those are just a few of my favorite under-rated movies. Let me know what you think! Agree, disagree? What are some of your fave movies that don't get the love you know they deserve?
